Spectators will be treated to fiery musical performances during the Soirée Culture, which is hosted by comedian Garihanna Jean-Louis and under the musical direction of Alexandre Paquette. The opening number promises to get the crowd going with a performance fusing hip-hop, opera, classical music, and rock, featuring musicians from Ensemble Obiora, young pianist Sem, SLM, Ruben Brutus, Jr Maddripp, Whimz, Lukay, DJ Shortcut, and dance troop Mafa Studio, including its choreographer Marilyne Tania Camille assisted by Claire Moreau.
“Over the years, Gala Dynastie has established itself as a major event on the Montreal culture calendar. For this edition, we pulled out all the stops and surrounded ourselves with a great team to put on a spectacular show. The Soirée Culture will feature more than 20 artists—a record number—hitting the stage to give original performances. I can't wait for the public, whether they’re in the hall or at home, to finally see the results of the incredible work our team put in over the last few months,” noted Carla Beauvais, co-founder and executive director of Fondation Dynastie.
The evening will be full of powerful moments, including a tribute to artist Mikaben who died in 2022 during a concert at Paris’s Accor Arena. Songwriter Marco Volcy will perform a medley of the Haitian music star’s classics. Meanwhile, singer Jennifer-Lee, who is the headliner of musical The Bodyguard, will perform a piece by Mélanie Renaud in support of the artist who is going through a challenging time dealing with illness.
The evening will also feature promising up-and-coming artists like Joseph Sarenhes, Radio-Canada’s musical revelation of the year for 2023. This young Quebecer of Guinean and Indigenous (Huron-Wendat) origins creates music fusing ancestral Afro-Indigenous traditions and innovative hip-hop. Montreal singer Hawa B will share one of her compositions that features lively rhythms that move between rock and RnB.
The event will close with a tribute to some of the architects of Quebec's urban musical scene, with original interpretations of hits by a host of artists including: Marième, Ya Cetidon, Naïma Frank, Nicole Musoni, Maky Lavender, Skandal, Barnev, KidCrayola, DJ Crowd, and dance troop Mafa Studio.
“The Conseil des arts de Montréal is a proud partner of Gala Dynastie and is extremely enthusiastic about the musical performances planned for this exceptional event. This evening will highlight the talent and passion of artists from Black communities and promises to be a vibrant, inspiring celebration. Join us for an unforgettable musical experience, as together we honour the creativity and the remarkable work of these artists who have enriched the Quebec culture scene,” said Nathalie Maillé, executive director of the Conseil des arts de Montréal.
